In order to keep the cost of tuition low enough for the malawian and missionary community to afford we try to find qualified, volunteer, missionary teachers.  Each teacher is asked to raise their own support from churches or individuals.  A cost worksheet can be obtained from the stateside home office or our west coast recruiter Chuck Price.  ABC Christian academy provides housing in the form of a duplex, we try to give each teacher their own room but this is not always possible.  Most duplex's have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. They are furnished with the bare necessities such as beds, living room furniture, stove, fridge and two duplex's (one complex) share a washer and dryer. Most duplex's also have kitchen utensils and some cook ware.  Teachers need to bring their own linens in the form of sheets, towels, bed pad, pillow etc.   The academy also has 3 vehicles that are available for use by missionary teachers at the academy.  Teachers pay a fee of $75 for monthly use.  If vehicles are taken out of the Lilongwe city a charge is made per kilometer of use for the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicle.  Teachers are also respsonsible for the following charges -- electricty, security, internet (wireless and very good for Africa), maintenance, appliance use and water use in the duplex.  Charges run about $125 per month.  Phone charges are separate and divided among roomates.  Most teachers also have a cell phone which they can purchase when they arrive.  Cell phones are not charged for incoming calls - helpful for overseas family calls.

Teachers need to be dedicated Christians with a genuine love for children and a heart for missions overseas.

We need to fill the following positions for the 2009-2010 school year.

  1. 1 First Grade Teacher Information Coming.
  2. 1 Third Grade Teacher Information Coming.
  3. 1 Art Teacher  Our current Art teacher is returning to the states this year.  Preferably we are looking for a college graduate who loves art and has some experience teaching art to elementary age children.  This teacher would teach art to all classes K-4 through 6th grade.   Each grade has art once a week for 50 minuets.  We are looking for an individual to develop this program and make art applicable to each grade. We have just finished building a new building with an art classroom for this teacher.  School dismisses by 1:00 p.m. each day.  Class size is no more than 20 students. Classes are also muti-cultural.  We have over 21 nationalities represented at the school.  Classes are half ex-patriot (any other county other than the host country of Malawi) and half Malawian.
  4. 1 Computer Teacher   We prefer a college graduate but will consider an individual with experience and expertise in the computer field that has a love for children and a desire to teach about the high tech world of computers.  All grades Kindergarten through 6th grade take computer once a week for 50 minutes.  We have a curriculum in place for grades K - through 8th grade. Younger grades focus on the parts and names of a computer, language for the computer literate, basic keyboarding/typing skills. Older grades are introduced to word, excel and other programs needed in today's world as a student.   Internet skills are introduced but closely monitored by teacher for projects and research.  Accelerated reading tests are also taken for the first 10-15 minutes of class for grades First through sixth.  School dismisses by 1:00 p.m. each day.  Class size is no more than 20 students.
