Proverbs was written by a very wise old man by the name of Solomon. It wasn't written, however, primarily to all people but to young men and young women. Solomon was the son of king David and he became the wisest, wealthiest and most famous king of Israel.
After Solomon became king, God appeared to him in a dream, and said,"Ask what I shall give thee." And Solomon answered, "Give thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people." God was so pleased that Solomon did not ask for long life for himself, or riches or honor that He not only gave him wisdom but all the other things as well. So, the one who wrote this Book of Proverbs is able to show us the way of wisdom.
Proverbs is a book of many different sayings. King Solomon is said to have spoken 3,000 proverbs.
Everyone wants to know the right way to go. We see signs saying, "Go this way," "Go that way," "Wrong way," and even sometimes we can say, "No way!" Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me!" And this, in a very real sense is what the Book of Proverbs is all about! How to find the right way —to live— Now, and how to find the way to Eternal life!
